A Motherhood Mini Session with the Summerhays Family

In the realm of family photography, there’s a profound beauty in capturing the unscripted moments—the ones that truly reflect the essence of parenthood. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Misha and her two-year-old son, Brooks, for their Motherhood Mini Session. This wasn’t my first encounter with Brooks; in fact, it was my third, and each time, I’ve witnessed his vibrant personality blossom.

From the outset, it was evident that Brooks had his own agenda for the shoot. Ditching the conventional notions of posing, he decided that pants were optional and that his true companions for the session would be the playful animals scattered around. As a photographer, encountering unexpected twists like these is not uncommon, but it’s always a delight, especially when it’s a trademark move of the charming Brooks.

Instead of coaxing Brooks into a predetermined mold, Misha embraced his spontaneity wholeheartedly. Rather than chasing after the elusive “perfect” shot, she allowed him the freedom to express himself authentically. In doing so, she demonstrated a profound understanding of motherhood—one that prioritizes love and acceptance over rigid expectations.

The resulting images from our session are nothing short of magical. They encapsulate the pure joy and connection between Misha and Brooks, showcasing a mother who celebrates her child’s individuality and a son who thrives under her nurturing gaze.
