Alabama Love – Part One

Not too long ago, a secret mission was underway at Fort Rucker Army Base just outside of Enterprise, Alabama. My little brother Evan had designed the perfect proposal to his girlfriend Annalise and recruited me as his wing man in order to pull it off. (See what I just did there?) It was a mission that took 5 weeks to plan, perfect and execute! But before I divulge all the juicy details, let’s back up to before this all went down.

The Set Up

They had been dating for 4 years when Evan was transferred to Fort Rucker, AL to attend flight school. While he was piloting Blackhawks, Annalise stayed in Kansas City to continue her career with the FBI. (I know what you’re thinking – coolest couple ever, right? You are correct my friend.) Long distance was hard, but they were making it work. A year into this, Jess and I posted a model call for couples. When Annalise saw it she texted me immediately, stating that she wished Evan was closer so they could model for me. Right then a light went off in my head. I knew this could be the perfect opportunity for Evan to pull off one epic proposal. I texted him right away and the plan was hatched.

The plans was that I would tell Annalise I wanted to take a trip to visit Evan and grab some gorgeous photos of the beautiful countryside. She had a trip already planned for Memorial Day, and if it was ok with her then I would just tag along. I told her I could also take some photos of them while I was down there as long as Evan was up for it. She checked with him to see if he’d be ok with that. In her mind, she was talking him into doing a photo shoot, which really threw her off his trail! From then on we planned the shoot with Annalise, while Evan I planned the proposal which was to happen during the shoot.

The day before the proposal, we decided to take advantage of the beautiful trees and landscape of Fort Rucker. I’ve never seen trees like this before. There are acres and acres of gorgeous cedar trees growing like this all over the base. We drove around the base looking for the perfect spot and waded into the forest, drinking in the light. Evan and Annalise were amazing and never complained about the heat or even the fact that I was asking them to walk through thorny underbrush while chasing the light. They were happy to be there and that’s the moment I knew this was meant to be.
